Xi and Biden meeting

  • First, we should have a correct strategic understanding. The “Thucydides Trap” is not the fate of history. The “New Cold War” cannot be fought or won. It is unwise and undesirable to contain China, let alone succeed.

  • The second is to believe what you say and do what you do. People can’t stand without faith. China does what it says, but if the United States always says and does the same thing, it will be very bad for the image of the United States and damage the mutual trust between the two sides.

  • Third, treat each other equally. In the exchanges between China and the United States, neither party can transform each other according to its own wishes, nor can it suppress each other from the so-called “power position”, let alone deprive each other of the right to legitimate development in order to maintain its own leading position.

  • Fourth, you can’t challenge the red line and the bottom line. China and the United States are two major countries. It is inevitable that there will be some contradictions and differences, but they cannot harm each other’s core interests, let alone engage in conflicts and confrontations. The one-China principle and the three joint communiqués between China and the United States are the political foundations of bilateral relations and must be adhered to. Taiwan issue, democratic human rights, road system and right to development are China’s four red lines and cannot be challenged. These are the most important barriers and safety nets in Sino-US relations.

  • Fifth, engage in more dialogue and cooperation. Under the current situation, the common interests of China and the United States are not reduced, but more. Whether in the fields of economy and trade, agriculture, drug control, law enforcement, public health, etc., or in the face of global challenges such as climate change and artificial intelligence, and international hot issues, Sino-US cooperation is needed. China and the United States should lengthen the list of cooperation, make the cake of cooperation bigger, and achieve win-win cooperation.

  • Sixth, it is to respond to the expectations of the people. The development of Sino-US relations should always focus on the well-being of the two peoples and gather the strength of the two peoples. China and the United States should pave the way for people-to-people exchanges and cultural exchanges between the two countries, and also eliminate interference and obstacles, and not to create the “cold cicada effect” man.

  • Seventh, it is to show the responsibility of a great country. China and the United States should always consider the future and fate of mankind, take responsibility for world peace, provide public products for the world, and play a positive role in world unity, including carrying out benign interaction, not engaging in mutual consumption, and not coercing other countries to take sides

Looks to me like another Dem exit strategy: project mature appreciation of rivalry without enmity, after years of sarcasm and threats, then pounce on Trump for anything that “undermines” that. Despite the very likely continuity of aggressive competition (at least).

What is the second bullet point actually saying? I didn’t understand the part about the US always saying and doing the same thing. The same as what? The same as it has these past many years (aggression)? The same as China?
