Ukraine says Russia has blown up Nova Kakhovka dam in Kherson region

Edit: RT version of story. Personally I doubt it was the Russians. Que bono?

I don’t know who blew it up but this might shed light on your question of Que bono?

Alex Thomson (sp?) flagged a recording of “two Russians” on the Extra edition of UK Column on Monday 12 June. He sounded some sensible caveats but seemed to think it was a genuine intercept. The two parties say that “we” blew it up, meaning Russia. His key caveat, it seemed to me (repeated twice) was that one or both of them may have had no real idea what they were talking about. Yeah. Quite.

Thanks for the info Ev. If I had to put money on it I’d say it was the Ukies.

BTW do we know what the Dam was wrecked with? I found this over at MoA.

Battles Rage as Ukraine Tries to Retake Russian-Occupied Territory - New York Times - June 9, 2023

Experts say the dam, which was held by Russian forces, was probably destroyed by an intentional explosion within the massive structure. They say an explosion from the outside, like a missile strike, or a structural failure caused by earlier war damage and high water spilling over the top, were conceivable causes but far less likely.

Hi folks,

Just like the Nord stream pipelines Russia had an on/off button - so why blow up anything yourself. I thought all dams had sluice gates to control water levels, and as Russia controlled the dam why on earth would it blow the thing up? Or am I missing something?

cheers
