“This is a strong statement from @realDonaldTrump to put an end to the gender madness. I fully support it, and hope I can help his administration make this a reality.”
In his book Mad Travellers Ian Hacking discusses how illnesses, and forms of madness in particular, find an “ecological niche”. Metaphorically. So it was once deemed that a chaotic person who turns up in very different circumstances in widely separated places had a mania for travel. That condition happened to be discovered, unearthed, named, at a time when railway infrastructure was being perfected, the well-to-do were undertaking Grand Tours, Thomas Cook was established, etc. Being able to abandon one’s life as a dishwasher in Paris, to reappear as an antique dealer in Dundee, became much easier.
I’m quite sure that someone will, or may already have, established why gender dysphoria happens to have exploded in a time of anomie, fluidity, short-termism, etc. Just as the concept of a career, for example, has taken a pounding.

. . . or as the founder and leader of a national liberation movement that sees off the military might of both France and the USA eh? Nothing much chaotic about Ho though.
