Thousands of Civilians Killed in Humanitarian US Drone Strikes

(I added an ironic word to this headline).

“In five years, the US military has carried out more than 50,000 air strikes in Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq. They admit that they have mistakenly killed 1,417 civilians in Syria and Iraq since 2014. Since 2018, 188 civilians have been killed in Afghanistan.”

New York Times: Thousands of Civilians Killed in US Drone Strikes

Ten thousand air strikes a year, average about one in five killing a civilian, and that’s according to the US.

And that figure of “mistakely killed” (1,417), is on their basis that all the others killed were “enemy combatants”. I wonder what the count would be in a parallel universe, where innocent until proven guilty prevails and enemy combatant is a soldier on the opposite side during a war, rather than someone defending their country against an invader, or even alleged to be doing so?
