This is a truly horrifying developement!

I really don’t know what to say.

Always been a supporter of a woman’s right to choose. After all, she’s going to be lumbered with the responsibilities of the next twenty years - at least. Often without support from anyone else much.

I’ve even been involved in supporting a partner who made the - hard, traumatic - decision; though in that case it was just a week or two into the pregnancy, so not so horrifying, and it was done by ritual magic, and with the consultation and agreement of the unborn soul, who then departed voluntarily. What’s called spontaneous abortion, though we called it differently: cancelling the pregnancy with the consent of all parties.

I was also involved, in my mis-spent youth, in another, different partner getting our newborn daughter adopted. Not what I wanted, but I reckoned then, as I still do now, that it was her right to choose.

Hard, but not particularly horrifying events. Even so, they left wounds.

But what’s being described in this short vid is in a different category. Better in such circumstances, if the mother just can’t take on the big commitment, to bear the baby safely, and put her/him up for adoption. I have friends who, unable to beget children themselves, adopted four girls one after the other, from Chinese orphanages: my Brit-Chinese foster grand-daughters. Hugely successful: happy, whole-spirited girls, deeply glad foster-parents, normally loving family from end to end.

I have also been involved, with yet another partner, in helping to rear her child, whom I still call my beloved son, his real father being a courageous Zulu who was swept up in the apartheid struggles. This beautiful, much-loved boy of ours just turned sixty this year…

What to do about a pregnancy is always a fraught question. No getting round that. But the procedure described in the vid just isn’t acceptable, if it’s an accurate description. Several bridges too far.

I know that people have done similar things since time out of mind; usually by exposure, which is also pretty horrendous. The whole issue is deeply intractable. Better by far to organise easy contraception, and also quick, early-term termination such as I outline above, rather than these bad late-term procedures. There’s no glossing over such mengeloid practices.

I too am lost for words.

Thanks for posting

Abortion is a tricky issue, but I think most sane people will agree that full term abortion can’t be anything other than murder.

I don’t know if it’s true, and can’t yet provide any links, but I have heard that recently some parts of California have legalised post-natal termination of perfectly healthy babies.
