The web archive web.archive.org/, that has held much of the internet in storage for 30 years, was attacked in a coordinated manner a few weeks ago. According to the article, it may only itself survive in an archive form - ie nothing new would be stored.

At about the same time Google ended it’s cache service whereby an old version of a link was displayed if the latest version didn’t have the searched-for text. I found this useful as if the search item wasn’t there when you click the link, it usually means it has been removed. That was a cue to check the …archive

Yes, that’s a very important piece of news.

Much as I hesitate to cite this source, this is an even bigger breaking story

I believe the Web is being “exposed” as dangerous and insecure, and will “have to be” fenced-in by some “trusted” agency/corporation.

When a vicious cull of newspapers and websites follows we will know for sure that the Wild West Web days of finding answers for yourself are gone.

Yes all these straws are in the wind, just waiting for a suitable place to land and take root.
The BBC thinks it IS that trusted corporation, of course.
