Only been able to get over to the tree-defenders’ camp by the Greenway on the Welsh Road, in South Warwickshire at scattered times lately, because of tricky-to-breach road-closures around the current vandalism site, necessitating multi-mile detours over hilly terrain which is more than I can cycle every day of the week.
Got through the barriers today, though, and found a crowd of defenders in hightened alert mood, as the tree-killers, and their thug-helpers the ‘National Eviction Team’, are now around and clearly getting busy.
This action needs as many volunteer vandal-obstructors as can be mustered. The site of the camp is at the cross-roads between the Welsh Road, and the Leamington Spa to Long Itchington Road. Both arms of the Greenway are also accessible at this place. One arm is in process of being prepared for trashing for this idiot railway right now.
The proper strategy with HS2, it seems to me, is to hamper and slow down the vandals, until some government clique finally admits that it’s as much of a wholly-pointless, profitless white elephant as Concorde was, and - like Concorde - they at last decide that it has to be cancelled.
With enough pressure, and enough cold dawning of economic reality, this lunacy can be stopped at Birmingham, and will never smash and devastate its way on towards Manchester. A partial win for sanity and appropriate Gaia-respect, at least.
