The feel is of a good decent soul, who bought into all the orthodoxy-indoctrination of his youth, who - like so many other such solid figures - would have laughed out of discussion ideas which, he confesses, he’s now having to take seriously; and who sees ever more clearly the sheer madness, and the criminality, of what’s happening.
