The Guardian begins to realize what it has done

The Guardian view on the US pursuit of Julian Assange: set him free

EditorialThe Guardian view on the US pursuit of Julian Assange: set him free | Editorial | The Guardian

We are a liberal newspaper! And don’t like to see stuff like this happening.

Better than nothing… .
But is it? It’s lacking in specifics, for a good reason. “Stuff” that “we” helped along, that is. No mention of the pretext of ‘endangering lives’ - because it was the Guardian that leaked the password that this claim depended on (didn’t the US admit that no evidence has emerged that any insiders have been hurt?).
It ridiculed him for years (wasn’t he “a turd”?) and never defended him until relatively recently, when it became clear the toxic waters of US government intimidation and vengeance could lap at their feet, if they stepped out of line.

@Evvy_dense You must be made of sternner stuff than me to even read the Guardian. Without reading the article, how can they even purport to say

It’s the Guardian and their ilk that has allowed this “stuff” to happen. I’m off the bucket.

Well, they only implied those words, but they definitely did say, seemingly without irony, that the US government’s hounding of Assange “endangers”

the ability of the media to bring to light uncomfortable truths and expose official crimes and cover-ups

Yeah. Right.
