A couple of years back I wrote a song for Julian Assange. I was prompted by his violent removal from his refuge. I didn’t quite get around to finishing it beyond the initial demo - the whole thing left me feeling rather upset.
I’m hoping the outcome will come good for Julian - but considering the damage done already, I remain extremely worried for the fellow. How marvelous it would be to be able to return to this song and give it something approaching a happy ending.
Dear Dirty Bastards!
When the haggling is done, and the price is known
Here they come:
Bearing down with teeth honed like knives
Dim drones swarm from establishment hives
Stealing Julian to an absurd land
To be broken by beastly hands
Barbarised pawns jostle and shove
Vying to land the cruellest punch
But if it’s Julian today
It could be you tomorrow
…‘can we not just drone this guy?’ …
‘Stinky man - shit-smearing - narcissist - traitor - duplicitous arsehole - massive turd - stroppy teenager - Assange is no hero - definite creep - conspiracist whack job - demented looking gnome…’
