Left this comment. As you can see, I’m firmly on Kit Knightly’s side in this contretemps:
"Richard Strauss once described himself as “a first-rate second-rate composer.” This debacle confirms what I’ve suspected about Eric for some time: pretty good anti-authoritarian, anti-propaganda historian and writer though he is: he’s also a first-rate second-rate polemicist. Shame.
A good man on balance, but this exchange confirms his crusty-old-bloke’s unjustified certainty of being always right - a bit like me!
Though at least I recognise the fault and try to correct it. Wish Eric would loosen up a bit, and do likewise. I can recommend a twice daily dose of medical cannabis oil, by mouth, to help bring this on!
Well done Kit and co. Stick to your guns! Off-G continues to go up in my estimation."

It’s a shame to see such disagreements. The word “denialist” seems to get tossed around a lot these days. This is one of the points of conflict between the deep adaptation folk and other hard working environmentalists trying their best to convince people to make changes, for example.
It’s an interesting word because it accuses ones opponent of precisely the thing that the accuser is often guilty of - rock hard certainty.
To be a denialist means to take an absolutist position, and then refuse to consider new or different data.
To accuse someone of being a denialist is to be in possession of an incontestable truth that the denialist simply refuses to acknowledge.
To be honest, I think they’re both correct. And both wrong. I’ve been disturbed that the off-g folk simply present only one side of the situation as if there is no other side. Their position is absolutist.
Dr Seuss Eric Zeusse is taking an equally strong but opposite position.
It seems clear to me, as I’ve said before, that many people have died, and suffered serious consequences as a result of this virus. I personally know of 2 people just from my tiny circle who have died. Is it as dangerous as first thought? Almost certainly not. Is it harmless - a “little cold”? Almost certainly not. Are there hidden agendas of disaster capitalism, control and eugenics? Almost certainly yes.
I can’t see that absolutism on either side is helpful in responding to this crisis. The situation isn’t over yet. We still have a year (probably) to go before treatment gets normalised and herd immunity levels kick in (if that’s even possible). We don’t serve ourselves or anyone else by stubbornly refusing to look at one side of the problem and accusing the other side of being “denialists”. A little acknowledgement of what we really don’t know goes a long way…
Cheers
