Loved the extract with the teens on the bench. In England they’d be swigging cheap cider and chucking the butts of their roll-ups everywhere.
Give people something respectable and, would you believe it, they respect it. Give people some dingy dosshole and, pronto, they doss about.
Owen Hatherley writes on architecture and is very worth a read e.g. The New Ruins of Britain. I got into his stuff after reading Ministry Of Nostalgia in which he rips the piss out of the Keep Calm And Carry On twee bourgeoise nonsense.
