15/12/22 RSV wave hammers hospitals — but vaccines and treatments are coming

Though RSV is a thing (it seems more of a risk to kids than covid) it’s being getting boosted in the media, mainly as there’s a vaccine being pushed, as in the above article.
RSV is notable for being one of the best examples of past vaccines that seemed to work well in the lab, but killed people on encountering the wild virus, due to antibody-dependent enhancement.
Unlike before, this RSV vaccine doesn’t use a live virus but a protein (from it, presumably). This allows medics to say there have been ‘improvements’ in understanding of the problems of the old RSV vaccine. However it seems to me the principal ‘improvements’ have been to the commercial climate in which the new RSV vaccines will be punted. Zero scrutiny, and an enslaved media - not to mention the relaxed (non-)regulatory post-covid regime.
Igor Chudov has been on it, and as usual he has data. He points out that although there’s been RSV outbreaks, they seemed to peak in November.

Trial results? No
A study preprint? No
Press release? - yes!
Pfizer have asked for approval. What they want is for the media, and the public especially worried parents, to clamour for approval too.
As Chudov’s little round glass seems to have picked up, the trial results even if you trusted Pfizer, are not as good as the claims made for them. Could be a nothing burger, even without the neglected (as ever) considerarion of safety.

It’s also worth noting that if you’ve seen the word ‘Tripledemic’ bandied around, it’s bogus, as least as far as children is concerned. There is RSV, and Flu - but for children, very little in the way of covid hospitalisations.
