I liked the ‘scotch egg’ style of the second of these excuses:

Think of the current Senedd Cymru as something akin to the Weimar Republic; though we have to hope not with the same sort of upshot to which that led! Drakeford being the equivalent of one of the forgettable premiers who led that ignominious outfit.
Our best hope is a fully independent sovereign republic, with a really thoroughgoing commitment to serious, all-levels genuine democracy. Tall order. I hope to see it, and even take part in its creation, in the next incarnation - or two.
