Just a simple comment…
I just clicked on a random story and saw these additional linked headlines.

Windows 7 Reloaded solves Windows 11’s biggest problem – download it now
I had no problems since switching back from Windows 9 or 10 back to Windows 7 - about seven years ago.
The Microsoft way seems to be make it up as you go along - after first binding people into a commitment to stick with it.
It’s increasingly difficult to shake off this product that is never actually finished, while increasingly removing your privacy.
I bet you already knew that…
Even if they do get it ‘right’ (for you) it won’t be right for Microsoft - whose aim is not the usual business one of simply pleasing customers - who will set about changing it, and so on indefinitely.
Now it looks like they are forcing new PC buyers to sign up for a regular subscription.
Is the idea that the mobile phone model works much better for shareholders - so much so that they could in time give the PCs etc away for free, while fleecing you for your contract for the ‘services’?
Not going to bother. Despite all the advice on another thread about switching to Linux, I’m still struggling with my PC not wanting to boot from a thumb drive.

Totally possible, you should see how the games consoles “market” works! Backward compatibility? You must be joking!
Throw away the last generation stuff, or get £30 off CEX, and flog the games while you’re at it. If you’re very lucky a percentage of those games will be emulated for the “new architecture” and downloadable. But you’ll pay for a second time…
Why not take out a pay and play subscription… Several tiers, none of them cheap. Eventually that’ll be the only option except for povvos who are content to play GTA III.
@Patb That’ll be the bios. Keep pressing Delete when you start your pc with stick in. This will launch Bios. Go to Boot heading. You may have the load order list in front of you, you may need to click on one of the boot settings to see the list. Move USB to 1st place and put windows currently that is currently 1st into 2nd.
It’ll take a second or so longer to boot if the stick isn’t present.
To the main subject. I’m a gamer (not that I get the chance lol). Steam OS is really putting the fear into Microsoft. Using a vertical machine, Steam OS runs faster than Windows does on a native pc. Each of Valve’s previous big steps were because of M$ making threats to gamers. Based on Linux.
So the plan is that my main squeeze will be running Steam OS. Putting an older spare part PC together with Win7 that will be my media server that will not be connected to any network.
Been there and got the T shirt. I’ve tried remaking the thumb drive bootable using a different app. I’ve tried updating the bios but with what I could find online, not sure if it’s worked. Now, I’ve left it for a couple of weeks and will try again once I can get the time.
