Lots of confusion around.
Last night in a furious headbutting session with Piers Morgan George Galloway seemed to suggest Professor Mohammed Marandi was in a bombed building yesterday and could have been killed. The loss of Iran’s primary international spokesperson would be a blow to them on the world stage. However this could not be confirmed, and nothing to this effect had surfaced today.
This wasn’t GG’s finest hour as despite making some of his usual hard hits, he also led it down to the cut and thrust of personal.insults. Didn’t think he won the sword fight on this occasion, despite having Morgan in a weak position. Probably too incensed and OD-ing with warmongers’ bullshit.
There is some confusion over what Trump plans to do next. That’s mainly because he’s been doing his usual havering with his hands almost caressing the military levers. A pattern of seeming to go ‘all in’ rather frequently has emerged; just as in poker, this could weaken his hand if played too often and too transparently.
The Blumenthal interview might be revealing of the respective intents.
Oddly enough, ignoring what Trump says makes the remaining picture seem much clearer. Iran was unimpressed, it seems. Someone has to think and speak clearly, and it’s remarkable that the instigators of a raft of wars can’t make any of them seem reasonable to anyone with even a modest grasp of the facts; as a result they sound markedly less sensible than their opponents, whose alleged insanity is presented by our quietly rabid leaders as our motivation.
The main facts are … that Iran is not developing nuclear weapon - according to the offical US national intelligence agency, whose responsibility it is to make these reports. And that Israel’s attack on Iran is illegal; no imminent threat. And even if Iran was developing nuclear weapons it’s explicitly illegal to bomb them - for obvious reasons! GG points out Israel’s undeclared scores or hundreds of them.
It’s also illegal for Trump to take part in a war without Congress authorisation. The US traditionally gets round this by pretending they are not at war already. But if you do this, Dumbo, you can’t then threaten to have a direct war on top.
