Hi everyone, I haven’t posted on here before, but I do lurk quite a lot. I know some of you go on the Lifeboat news from time to time, despite the differences over issues like Covid. I have been trying to get onto the site today and it seems down. Is it just me or does anybody else have the same problem. I wouldn’t normally worry, but in the light of the ramping up of internet censorship recently I am quite concerned.
welcome to 5F. It’s nice to see new folks about.
I also haven’t been able to open the TLN page today. I don’t think it’s TLN, though, it looks like boardhost is having trouble - perhaps down for Sunday maintenance?
I looked for other boards hosted by boardhost, and they all seem to be down:
this also suggests the problem is with the host provider:
That’s why it’s better to be a plucky self-hosted board with open source forum code behind it
Anyway. Feel free to post anything you like here in the meantime. I’m sure our regulars would appreciate a new voice.
Cheers
aly
Hi Aly,
Thanks for the reply, I see it is back up now. I will be make a note to post here next time I have something to say.
Hi Cockneymystic nice to see you drop in for a cup of tea as next door was closed
For the second time in a weekend I heard some talking head from the military say we have to arm Ukraine properly to fight Russia, meaning the UK is to attack Russia itself. After all, he assured us, Putin is just bluffing. Call his bluff, he has warned before - he will do nothing, just as he did before!
The “nuclear chicken” game you referred to in your substack.
Just to nail down the point, the BBC followed this by another, identical thinking military bod who “agreed” with Hamish warmongering Gordon.
The madness means we don’t need to worry about nuclear war - Putin will never escalate. So we can escalate all we want, citing previous inaction.
Of course no-one could be found by the BBC who thinks this is a bad idea.
As the US has expressed reluctance, the presenter asked should Britain go it alone? The talking head answered we have been leading it! Leaf out of Netanyahu’s book. Like being given US weapons is a human right.
I liked this post of yours also for its summary of Nato - should be ‘despised’ by socialists, nationalists (or defenders of sovereignty), environmentalists and liberals! Using the senator Biden extract, from when he definitely had his marbles (as he was throwing them around) which iterated in no uncertain terms what being in Nato actually requires.
Cheers
Yes, welcome @Cockneymystic
Eric Zuess, although I find his writing a little bland, agrees that Macron, Starmer and the UK opposion are all shilling for war. All we need now for all out WWIII is for the Beltway bozos to cave in.
Thanks Evvy, I think its ironic that people always acuse me of appeasement when I criticise our rush to war with Russia, but we are the ones constantly crossing red lines, like Hitler did in Austria, the Rhineland etc, and getting emboldened to think there will be no comebacks, hence keep pushing further. The other thing that shocks me is how we seem to be even keener on war that the US. I struggle to get my mind around that. It’s like we have to prove how partisan we are for the empire by being even more belligerent than the boss. Sort of like the house negro as described by Malcolm X.
Thanks Pat. As I said above, the insane rush to war by the Europeans is just bizarre. If it hits the fan, it’ll be the Europeans who’ll get in in the neck, as the likes of Germany’s economy is already noticing. We are like a yapping sidekick, kicking off trouble to get the big kid to come in and sort it out, but if recent history tells us anything, the US looks after number 1 and their main concern is increasingly China.
Funny you should say that. In the last couple of years, I have been gradually coming round to the view that the global empire actually revolves around Britain. I know that this is contrary to the mainstream view. I am also aware that I cannot point to anything objective to substantiate this, but despite all of the US’s power and ‘exceptionalism’, the City of London seems to me to be pulling the strings while deliberately remaining in the shadows.
Hold on to your hat…
So many posts to catch up on later, but here’s a snippet for now.
Seems VVP made it quite clear that there will be a response. Obviously the politicians decided he’s still bluffing, but the Pentagon did listen. Hence the delay on allowing the strikes.
Makes complete sense when you’re bankrupt. Next year, America will be paying more in debt servicing than what they spend on their military machine. We aren’t far behind them. France and Germany are in the process of bankruptcy. German industry is being hollowed out for America and France is losing its easy money schemes (uranium no longer free). Each leader chomping at the bit has the same problem or they are a gullible Chihuahua (possibly one or two held by kompromat?).
Next you have the problem of ignorance. Not only the ignorance that under forties are lucky to enjoy (no cold war) but real ignorance. I’m sure bunker technology has improved in the last fifty odd years, but I doubt the basics have. You’re in a bunker with British elites. Bunker is getting hot. Anyone who has nothing to be doing is to lie on the floor naked. So, pick half a dozen or so “elites” and think about lying naked next to them. If that’s not a recipe to stop war (for the average person), I don’t know what is…
Then there is the upcoming US election. Safe to say they don’t want Trump winning. Murky ties to Ukraine are all over this latest attempt on Trump. War ensures presidential continuation meaning no Trump.
I found this chat between the Duran boys and ex British diplomat to Moscow, Ian Proud, very interesting.
It was interesting to hear how the UK accidentally managed to exile itself from the top table and is now trying to yap loudly from the sidelines.
He didn’t talk much about the Skripal affair unfortunately. But then again, perhaps he could be arrested for doing so.
