Exactly. I have a vague recollection of him saying air pollution kills 40,000 every year. He was challenged on this and has (to my knowledge) never provided any basis for this claim whatever.

It is somewhat ironic that, only a few weeks ago, my car passed MOT emissions tests and all the rest yet the indicators were faulty. I knew this would cost a bomb to repair because the whole steering wheel assembly, airbag, etc has to be removed. I realised when about to drive home from near Newcastle that they were no longer working at all.
Ok: I made it home and now they are fixed (£200, a bit less than I dreaded) but a single misjudgement, missing a speeding Audi or Kia in the mirror, and things could have turned pretty nasty very quickly.
At heart I accept that deterring traffic is prima facie sensible but as the video demonstrates the misplaced priorities suggest that it’s a money-making scam.
Meanwhile: how much of this cash will simply be siphoned into the pockets of the usual construction firms…?
