Given the seismic instability Japan does not seem a great location for nuke energy of any kind. I was surprised to see (assuming the figures are trustworthy) that nukes and renewables contribute collectively only one-quarter of the country’s total generation.

If you drill down through the stats they generate quite a bit more via hydroelectricity than via nuclear.
