Not just by decree. Talk round the tree-defenders’ group I’ve been attending to oppose HS2 is of a clear determination by the powers-that-shouldn’t-be in USuk simply to defy any legality, and to act like bandits, wherever they think they can get away with it; an overt shift, under the influence (in Britain) of people like Cummings and his bent-as-a-corkscrew protege Bozo (and the oligarch crooks whose puppets they are) towards a barely-crypto new fascism: big-biz and utterly crooked political facilitators in the classic fascistic marriage made in hell.
See, for example, the breath-taking kangaroo behaviour being committed by Baraitser and the prosecuting counsel in the extradition ‘trial’ of Julian Assange. Blatant trampling of law, together with blatant silence from the lamestream media, because they gauge that they can get away with it before a distracted, terrorised, and listless public.
The behaviour of the bandits pushing forward the HS2 devastation, as detailed in another post of mine this evening, is another case in point: hundreds of ancient mature oaks that don’t actually need to be felled to make way for the idiotic rail-line, but which are making a nice little scofflaw earner for - someone - in prime oak timber; and in many other species simultaneously.
The idea that I put forward in these conversations at the tree camps, to considerable agreement, is that as our economo-ecological situation gets steadily more desperate, the scammers-in-charge (scics?) are deciding behind closed doors that drastic measures have to be taken, to thumb down any pretence of democracy and the rule of law, as they do whatever they think that they can push through to safeguard their privileges and gross wealth holdings, and to sacrifice all we no-count plebs and all the decencies and benefits in our lives which we have achieved during my lifetime, as needed.
And, as you could predict, the police are getting the green light to be more authoritarian and violent, to match; and the military are being crept in wherever possible to reinforce our over-awing.

PS: good to see Bozo depicted as Charles Stewart, rather than Churchill (hah!). Winston soused himself to disappointed death, but Charlie was beheaded. Which option is best for Bozo…?

I could not agree with you more, RG. This side into dictatorship is about as worrying a development as I’ve seen in the country.
We need to talk more about Cummings. This guy seriously scares me. He is a stone cold sociopath and right at the heart of this move. He’s our Steve Bannon, and he’s running the place.
It’s gearing up. It feels like 1936…

Yes, I’d love to talk more about that. It’s a bigger post than I can face right now though. His blog was interesting and sort of terrifying. And he is busy acting out the fantasies he described…

Note in particular how times like these are seen as a golden opportunity for scavenger-capitalist gangsters to pick up other people’s property at give-away prices, and how this reality provokes the utterly scofflaw gangsterism of all the chancers, just as AAPA (awake and paying attention) people are beginning to call out right now.
This criminality on a rampage is beautifully - if horribly - illustrated by the Cummings-led, Bozo-mascotted bunch of gangsters currently usurping power in our fake-democracy, with their blatant scofflaw attitude to due process, rule of law, and careful restraint in the use of power. Cronies cashing in, and - in the case of the tree-devastation on which I’m activist-ing right now - outright criminal stealing of prize oak and other timber from trees which are not even in the official way of the HS2 swindle. Something that the tree-defenders here are looking into right now…
The pressure towards a revolutionary explosion continues to grow. Roll on, ASAP!
