Well done @RhisiartGwilym and all the others out there!
There’s strong certainty amongst the tree-defenders here that the scofflaw gangsters, in this time of - as UK Column assert - coup d’etat in Britain and a government of occupation, are outright stealing prize ancient oaks and other trees, without any need for purposes of HS2 construction, simply because they’ve sussed the state-level lawlessness of the times and know that they can get away with it. The grinding machine of the law is only for subduing we activist plebs: Several of my compadre tree-defenders in court yesterday and Monday.
Last night, in snatched conversation with my darling K, who’s also up to her arm-pits in this struggle to save the trees, I heard that four of the government’s NET (National Eviction Team) thugs had been arrested at the nearby Cubbington demo, where demonstrators were trying to protect a very old and perennially fruitful wild pear tree. Seems the police arrested these private-army goons because of outrageous, wholly unjustified violence against the protesters. Bet you didn’t hear about that in the lamestream media!
Chris Hedges has a favourite anecdote about how illicit governments fall. He was in the DDR (East Germany) when Erich Honeker fell from power. Honecker sent paratroops to quell the huge demos that were happening around the Berlin Wall and elsewhere. In the event, the paras refused orders to fire on their fellow Germans, and - as Chris puts it - “Honecker was gone in a week”. Cracks in the the solid front of the state thugs is always a good sign for - genuine - freedom and democracy to overthrow gangsters-in-power.
When metal fatigue crashes heavy machinery, it always starts with tiny cracks in the previously-whole load-bearing members…
PS: I’ve been told in plain terms that there are plenty of volunteers at the tree-camp this weekend, and - as a prudent response to my near-collapsed state of weariness - I’m to stay at home and rest today. That’s why I’m posting at midday!
