Gerald Horne. Historian. Has written many books on class, race, etc.
Interesting stuff. He’s absolutely right, our current level of collective literacy about our world is close to absolute zero.
Everything is decontextualised. There is no narrative framework around the forces that led us to where we are politically, environmentally, socially. The acceptable range of discourse is so narrow that there is no way to explain any of it accurately anyway, and the major problems of our modern world are simply reduced to pre-digested cartoons which the mainstream media (and now digital social media) simply feed into people’s open mouths.
The disintegration and dismantling of our educational systems is almost complete. Here in the UK Boris’ government have just outlawed the teaching of anti-capitalist ideology. Everything is to be framed within the spectrum of hard-right fascism to center right neoliberalism. There is no other philosophy allowed…
Cheers
