As you get towards the end of this essay, the parallels with today’s nonsense-world become roaringly clear. All because ‘experts’ won’t accept their own - inherent - limitations in being able to know anything much at all; and we - simpletons that we are! - believe them too easily:

When “safe” means “it kills people,” “effective” means “it doesn’t work,” and “the situation is under control” means “all our predictions turned out to be wrong and we have no idea what to do,” you’re looking at a ruling class that’s got a great big concrete wall across the road ahead and the accelerator slammed flat against the floor.
