Possibly. But one of the things that the Ukraine crisis has brought out in Andrei is his occasional over-excitability, and his tendency at such times to get into Chicken Little mode.
It’s clear that we are in a time of change of empires, and that these usually involve some amount of idiotic futile war - which never reverses the tidal flow: when an empire’s decline-and-fall time has come, it happens. It doesn’t get stopped and reversed. (Better scholars should correct me if they know of exceptions…)
I reckon that, even in the DC cesspit, there remains a ballast of realists who comprehend that nuclear war is a definite major-lose certainty for them; so they will avoid it. Instead, the established habit now is hybrid wars inflicted on sacrificial proxies, such as Syria or the Ukraine. Grisly shit-shows indeed, but always stopping just short of direct inter-imperial wars with nuclear weapons.
Rather than global nuclear disaster, I reckon the true future is the Long Descent, with - probably - Russia/Siberia as the last flickering of industrial ‘civilisation’, before it finally extinguishes, and passes unrevivably into history. After that, any new empires which do arise are likely to be regional, at largest, the (permanently) reduced techie-techie capabilities of those times being physically unable to support anything larger.
I really don’t think the general public are going to buy into this one. It’s easy to forget that not that many months ago we were talking about the ‘Freedom Convoy’ in Canada, that was brutally repressed by the government (which included seizing people’s bank accounts and putting in foreign troops to beat the shit out of protestors). The events in Canada were a small part of ever growing worldwide protests against all the covid nonsense, and ever growing government violence against the populace.
The psychos got so worried that they flipped the switch: all covid restrictions suddenly dropped, and instead an equally idiotic war in Ukraine (example here).
The rapidly rising cost of living, particularly the cost of energy, is now all Putin’s fault, and has nothing to do with the two years of scamdemic, during which, with all the lockdowns, etc, the global economy was deliberately trashed.
Thanks for the Hugo Talks link. Zelenskiy looked nervous, like a plant manager when someone from Head Office visits. Which is probably more or less accurate.
A few days ago I’m sure I read somewhere that Biden or Harris was due to visit Kiev, and the thought occurred to me that if Kamala were to meet with an unfortunate stray mortar it would clear the path for deposing the JoeBot ever so nicely. How did I get to be so suspicious of our Dear Leaders? It’s a mystery.
