Good stuff 
but:
mapping backwards until you find a mcguffin is, tbh, a somewhat mendacious way of hammering at the same nail. To put it another way: when we all can quite clearly see where we are, what is the point of tracing how we got here? Except to sow hopelessness, maybe?
