Facebook bans Socialist Workers Party

All 213 members are mightily upset

Seriously though. All the lefties who cheered Trump’s banning are having second thoughts now…

Down with that kind of thing!

How are George Galloway and the gang getting on, whatever it is they’re called this week ?

Good question! I’ve no idea if he had a Facebook page, but if he does it won’t last long.

Sadly my feeling is that GG is pretty burned out these days. I don’t expect much of a challenge from him in any real sense…

It seems that for the time being, the left is consigned to quiet corners of the web where they can’t really change much of anything and mostly argue with each other.

Trying to think of effective ways to change things, but I’m coming up short…

He went full-on mask Nazi months ago and that’s roughly when chez Eliot social media blocks were erected. Definitely in the Lockdown Harder faction our George.

It is strange how so many old guard leftists just don’t seem bothered about worker protections during the pandemic.

Support lockdowns? Fine. But then how about some truly radical thinking and fighting for better job and wage protections across society? Better protections of mental health and women/children at risk of abuse?

Nope. Everything on hold until the virus gives us a break.

Give me a break!

Indeed, it is strange how the traditional left cause (employment for all) is cast aside so readily by many on the left. Also agree that if you do support lockdowns, it ought to be conditional on a whole raft other measures to alleviate all the extra problems created. And if it’s clearly not forthcoming, then one must look for alternatives measures before destroying yet more of society.

In my opinion, the “traditional left” has been moving right for some years now. This has been apparent in many western countries but the UK it seemed to be quite marked by the appointment (coronation) of Tony Bliar as leader.

As for organisations like the unions, it seems keeping in step with the mainstream narrative is more important than principles or looking after the general interests of members.

I’m just glad I left the party at the time of the Iraq invasion, promising to never vote Liabour again
