Bricker and Ibbitson’s new book tracing how deliberate - sic! - fertility decline around the world will produce a non-eugenicist solution to our current population overshoot problem. A hopeful thesis, though one that seems to rest on the idea of full urbanisation and economic development across the world to bring it about. Hmm… even with the looming commodity-shortages of essential materials - especially energy sources? Non-substitutable, non-replaceable commodities in too many cases, too. Hope their optimistic scenario is right! Certainly worth a look, to get all the strands of the population-overshoot issue into some sort of perspective:
