Short article with well explained metrics and a $64m question . . .
There’s been some good digs from this feller Joel Smalley lately.
FWIW
Israel is the most vaxed/up to date country in the world. On 29 Jan this year it had the world’s highest rate of covid ‘cases’ (Palestine 58th). And 11th highest in deaths (Palestine 72nd).
Comparison from the day before yesterdays figs
Popn | Cases | Deaths | Deaths | cpm/day | dpm/day | Case | Posn | Recent case | ||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
(m) | gradient | gradient | per m | last wk | last wk | fatality | fatality | |||
05/02/2021 | Israel | 9 | 0.70 | 1.81 | 980 | 5879 | 7.4 | 0.3 | 13 | 0.13 |
05/02/2021 | Palestine | 5 | 1.95 | 1.71 | 923 | 1304 | 1.8 | 0.9 | 64 | 0.13 |
Palestine’s cases on the rise - almost doubled in a week - so may not be the settled picture.
It’s interesting that the actual performance of the vaccine is opposite from the Pfizer trials - which didn’t assess hospitalization or death, but found that cases were reduced.
Thanks for the update Evvy. Astonishing to see how close the CFRs are. That 4 week lag definitely has to be thought about.
Given that Palestine is essentially a Bantustan within Israel (and I wouldn’t be all surprised @CJ1 if the map is inaccurate, I didn’t pay much heed) it feels unlikely that spread of illness is really all that different/slower. Possibly the opposite as it’s a very densely populated place. So maybe this reflects relative inadequacies in the Palestine authority reporting/monitoring? **
But whatever the cause the time lag is salient.
** Not to suggest they’re concealing deaths, rather that the health and administrative systems are presumably not as sophisticated or timely.
hi @KarenEliot , doesn’t Palestine have a very large percentage of young to old compared to Israel, which would reveal big differences in Covid stats although the reverse could be true when looking at jab stats?
As to the border with Jordan , the only crossing looks like something out of Indiana Jones, and this seems to be restricted:
I just hope his stats are more accurate than his geography.
