Currently undergoing peer review, but lots of interesting bits here.
@RhisiartGwilym this could explain one more reason why you were able to shake it off so easily, maybe?
In a study undergoing peer review, the CBD compound from cannabis has been found to stop COVID-19 replication in lung epithelial cells, suggesting the plant medicine holds yet another astounding quality.
Furthermore, observational data from patients who were taking CBD before they were tested for coronavirus showed that its use was associated with a significantly lower infection incidence rate than those not taking CBD
"I was over the moon to get vaccinated. I’ve covered the coronavirus pandemic, including the race to develop a vaccine, since only a handful of people were infected in Wuhan.
So when it was my turn to roll up my sleeve at the GP surgery, it really felt like a moment.
But I’m going to be open and honest with you: the vaccine floored me.
Let’s be clear, even with hindsight I’d do it all again. I’d rather have side effects than Covid, or another year of restrictions, or a higher chance of accidentally passing the virus onto a loved one.
I had my first dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine at 0930 in the morning. That evening I spiralled rapidly downhill and could barely scrape myself out of bed for the next three days.
Yes P, an instant burst of hindsight the moment I saw the headline! One of the things which induced me to start growing my own and taking the oil daily - a first for me, in my mid-70s - was cannabis’s apparent usefulness for reducing high blood pressure. But in the course of extensive study of all the briefly-tabooed knowledge of cannabis as an anciently-known, potent herbal medicine, it became clear to me that it’s so wide-acting in the health benefits that it confers that it’s comparable with C in value. The two together evidently helped me last year, when what still looks to me like a clear bout of covid was really very minor, and was gone in three days.
Fascinatingly, both specifics - C and c - when taken by mouth seem to be assisting internal systems that are evolved into us anyway. It’s only just recently that the endocannabinoid system has been described, whereby we make our own cannabis internally. And then there’s the damaged system within hom sap, which doesn’t make C internally any more, as most other species do, because of a fault in our genetic code which has caused the natural process to break down. Hence the need for primates to take in large amounts by C-rich food; which supplementation is of course chronically under-performed in humans because of our modern dietary habits.
My experience with flu and colds for going on thirty years now is that big-dose C stops them dead overnight, the moment the early mild symptoms give warning of an impending period of illness. Covid took longer, but there too the discomfort level was - literally - negligible. I just laid around a bit more than usual for three days. Luxury!
You can appreciate, perhaps, why I’m so unrattled and upbeat over the whole covid thing. I know from direct personal experience that, for the reasonably fit, it’s a doddle. I imagine the acute suffering, including actual death by pneumonia at the end-game, is a measure of the suffering person’s below-par background health status. A clear wake-up call there for greatly-improved health-maintenance policy to get promoted, focussing on right diet and lifestyle as lifelong prophylactics. Sound socialist medical policies to cure the disasters wrought by gangster-capitalist societies…
100% agree bwana. I’ve been chatting to friends and family recently and it occurred to us that the “education” systems around the world have completely failed to educate anyone in the most basic knowledge we need to live on this planet. Not surprising, maybe, as the primary task seems to be providing factory fodder and more unquestioning consumers, which they are succeeding admirably at.
None of us really get taught how to handle having a body. How to manage our mental health, how to handle our physical health, how to work with our emotions. None of us get taught the basics about what it means to live in community or how to form healthy relationships, or how to think clearly.
Surely these are the basic tools we should all be learning right from day one, so we know how to be human on planet earth?
Anyway. I’ve also been reading about the human endocannabinoid system - a remarkable thing or true beauty and importance in the body.
Perhaps time to dig out my grow out kit this year…
