I was summonsed for two weeks jury service this week and after all the security rituals, sipping my own drink to prove it wasn’t some kind of toxin, endless queues etc we all ended up in an assembly area. I was shortlisted for a panel but not chosen and was back at work by lunchtime. I mention this solely because the plasma screen on the wall was my first exposure to any TV news for years.
It struck me that the rolling news shows are ultra repetitive: the story is repeated on and on and on. I imagine stories “develop” and that bits are dropped and tweaked but it’s essentially hypnosis. So I can reveal that despite any evidence that might “emerge”, the Boeing 737 is a tried and tested and utterly safe form of transport that only very occasionally plummets into mountainsides in China for no apparent reason.
