Never mind the methane, which is short-lived in air, and contributes only a small percentage of - putative - warming effects. It’s the water vapour that’s the real heavy hitter!!! Oh christ! What are ‘we’ going to do about THAT!? We shall have to start a crash-priority global programme to phase out water…
We’ve had a very busy gite season this year (probably because many people haven’t had a holiday for 3 years).
Apart from French and Brits we have quite an international base of customers. For example, if you want a laugh watch me doing a meet and greet in the Spanish language.
The latest lot of guests who arrived today (Saturday) are from Wales, and they were all speaking Welsh.
I just love all the diversity! It’s what makes gite stuff interesting.
Anyhows, earlier we had Dutch guests staying here. I can’t speak Dutch or Welsh, but listening to it being spoken there seems to be a lot of similarities within the two languages?
My tiny residual command of Afrikaans is enough to pick out the basics of Dutch, but even more so the Scandinavian languages, especially Danish, which is kind of odd. I could put it down to all those weird Dogme films I suppose (and Wallander maybe)?
Karen, I find language to be one of the most fascinating things about the human condition. The myriad of different spoken languages. I’m told Hungarian is one of the most difficult to learn, even more so than Mandarin or Japanese.
But there are some words that seem to transcend language barriers. An example of this might be what English speakers term as ‘snow’. In French it’s ‘neige’. In Spanish it’s ‘nieve’. In Italian it’s ‘neve’. OK, all Romance languages, but then you can go to Hungarian, where the word for snow is ‘hó’, which is pronounced in much the same way as the Romance languages.
Then you can go to the Inuit (aka Eskimos) who have about fifty different words to describe ‘snow’, many of which are pronounced in the same way as in other languages.
Cue the Outer Limits theme music.

The ‘aaagh! aaagh! Weather!!!’ thing strikes me as barrel-scraping, Rob. None of the recent induced-panics seem to have shown any quality of lasting. The covid-swindle panic is obviously ebbing irreversibly now, declining into a whole raft of ‘new’ injections, which it seems only the usual hypochondriac trusting mooncalves are going to take up.
Meanwhile, I saw a recent poll which said that only about eight percent of USAmericans regard ‘climate emergency’ as an urgent threat. The stampeder-scams seem to be failing dismally.
I grow persuaded by Denis Rancourt’s thesis: that all these ‘emergencies’ are really items of global realpolitik, whereby the Anglozionist empire in particular is attempting to con us into a state of subdued obedience to authoritarianism, as part of its deck-clearing, the better to conduct its ongoing hybrid wars agains its rising rivals; and against the increasing pressures of the Long Descent also, of which some at least of the footloose globalist gics are well aware, I divine.
I think that they have a clear power-grabbing, democracy-extinguishing, anti-free-speech agenda, to whip us all into line - and at the same time to start an extended programme of surreptitious pleb-culling too, whilst they’re at it: we still have no clear evidence of what the longer-term effects of all the assorted poison-stabs are going to be, but it’s a fair bet that they offer wide opportunities for dosing the over-trusting with time-bomb ills, via permanently stab-depressed immune systems, that offer plausibly-deniable mass-culling opportunities.
All the globalisers really need for that is an edging of the global death-rate a percentage point or so above the global birth-rate, to accomplish a cull. The more so as it seems that that inversion is now edging into being spontaneously, as the Earth takes homeostatic steps to resolve our current population overshoot episode.
